Yesterday was pretty eventful. We got our delivery from IKEA, which means I am typing this while sitting on a chair, on a table (that is slightly too high for typing, honestly, but I am not fussy right now). Last night I slept on a mattress with sheets on it. It was fabulous. We also went up to Palo Alto to the Crate & Barrel and picked up our dishes, as well as a pitcher for iced tea, a set of juice glasses and high ball glasses, some cutlery, and a bread knife. We had breakfast out of real bowls with real spoons this morning, and it was wonderful. The dishwasher is drying the remaining dishes and cutlery right now.

Sprite is quite pleased with the king sized mattress. She has lots of extra room to be annoying in while we are trying to get to sleep. Smudge is also rather fond of it, and he has been climbing under the quilt to sleep for hours at every chance he gets. It's super cute and furry warm on our feet.

Shamus' office moved yesterday, so he gets to start biking to work on Monday. We met at the train station, and walked over to the office warming party, where I was introduced to the main HR guy that Shamus dealt with, who apologized profusely to me every time he saw me, for the inconvenience of our temp. room and the move and so on. It was amusing. I told him not to worry about it, since I was Canadian, so that meant I was nice. Going to the party meant that I got to get a whirlwind tour of who Shamus' coworkers were, and faces to put to names (however quickly I will forget whose face belongs to whom), and I also got to eat fabulous cupcakes. :3

From there we went to dinner, and then Crate & Barrel, and we managed to get back to the train station with our spoils only 5 minutes before the train came. We were both incredibly pleased that we didn't miss it by 5 minutes, as the next train wasn't coming for an hour. As we were approaching our stop, the announcer (who had been using a sort of game show voice for the stops thus far) started using a squeaky, Elmo-like voice, and as we were standing up to get off, he came back on the speakers, saying "This is Sunnyvale station. Elmo is announcing Sunnyvale." I thought that was just about the best thing ever, and told Shamus that I thought they should do that all the time, maybe using other Sesame Street and Muppets voices like Kermit the Frog, Oscar the Grouch, and the like. Can you imagine listening to the Hecklers announcing stops on your train?

We stumbled home, as both of us were tired and our feet hurt, and poor Shamus was carrying 20 pounds of dishes in an unwieldly box. I had only managed to put together one chair of the two we received, and had some troubles with the table, so he went to work at putting that stuff together while I put the bedsheets on the bed, and was otherwise useless (I had been feeling quite sick since Crate & Barrel). Shamus made me a wonderful, double strong cup of cold remedy tea (which is excellent for an unhappy stomach), and even as I was drinking it I began to feel substantially better. I came out of the bedroom and helped him unwrap and put the new dishes into the dishwasher (which has finished drying them now), and then we went to bed and I played Pokemon on my DS for a while.

Even with trying to sleep in, I only managed to sleep until 9:30 or so before I was done with being in bed. Shamus got up and had breakfast with me (at our fabulous new table), but then went back to bed where he and Sprite have been doing an excellent job of holding the mattress down for about an hour or so now. Smudge is sitting across from me on Shamus' chair, peering at me over the top of the screen on my laptop. I am so thrilled to have our cats back again. Just watching them sit around the house and explore has been giving me greater pleasure than ever. I missed them sorely while they were boarding.

Also, as a last though, it is incredible how much we take simple furniture for granted. Not having a chair or a mattress for two days has made me extra pleased to have such things now. I don't think I have EVER been so happy to just sit down on a chair in my life.
