I am sitting on the floor of my balcony, enjoying the shade and breeze. It's supposed to get up to 28 degrees here today, which means that I either stay inside all day, or I go only to the pool. However, we have a north facing apartment, so the sun never touches most of our balcony which means that even on the hottest days, the balcony is lovely and temperate. I generally sit out here at least once a day (pining for patio furniture), and often one or both of the cats will accompany me. We have harnesses and leads from their airplane trip down here, so I figured I'd put them to good use while soothing my anxieties that they'd be stupid enough to jump for a bird.

Not much has been happening the last little while. I've been trying to get back into drawing, but without a desk chair or a comfy chair to sit in, the dining chair is just not working out. I find I have better results when sitting on the floor and trying to draw, rather than attempting anything at the table. I'm waiting to order a piece of software so that I can finish up the current page, and then we need to get a scanner and a lightboard for the next page to happen. Regrettably, I'm not in prime form when it comes to drawing anymore; moving across the continent in less than 3 months will do that to your practice.

Interestingly, the internet here is terrible. This is a known thing amongst people who live in the area, and a bit of a mystery. No one can or will tell me why the internet here is terrible. I wasn't sure I'd be able to load the posting page when I decided to write.Google barely loads today, let alone anything with images.

Shamus has been bike commuting to work every day without complaint. He doesn't seem to find it too arduous, though he is often tired and overheated for a bit after he gets home. Getting home takes a little longer, due to rush hour, but if he leaves at 5, he is home by 5:30, which isn't too bad.

The pots we got when moved in are wonderful, and we are in love with our dishwasher. I am most impressed with the job it does on the cheese grater; you can put the thing in all crusted with dry cheese, and out it comes, cleaner than we ever got them by handwashing. I don't think I mentioned getting the giant tea kettle for making iced tea. We went up to Macy's on Saturday after meeting some people for brunch, and scoured their kitchen department for a 6 cup teapot. Such a thing doesn't exist in these parts. We ended up getting a 3.5 liter tea kettle (stovetop safe), and I use that to make the tea in instead. Back when we got our dinnerware, we picked up a big lemonade pitcher for making copious amounts of iced tea in, and it works wonderfully. We use three trays of ice cubes (I can't remember if I said that there were two full trays of ice cubes in our freezer when we moved in), and about two litres of tea, and that makes a scant pitcher that keeps its ice for a few hours in the freezer, even after cooling from near boiling. The first day I made it, we drank about 3/4 of it that afternoon. The remainder has taken a little longer to drink, but I think that may be out of consideration for the tea collection. I have lots of tea, but not a lot of any one type, and that pitcher I mentioned was a tiny bit weak with 10 teaspoons of tea in it. I am planning to make a tea order in the next couple of days to get a decent bulk amount of something yummy.

Anyway, that's about all I got right now. It's getting a bit warmer on the balcony here, so I belive I'll go inside and scour the cupboard for something I can blend for a pitcher of iced tea. Smudge is looking like he wants to go inside anyway, the balcony is less appealing when there's no birds singing and there's no sunbeam to bake his brains in.
